Today with about 13,000 inhabitants, the city became the second largest in the state of São Paulo, in the nineteenth century, with a population of 30,000 inhabitants.
The quality of the place was first perceived by the native Indians who there they abode since the time of chipped stone. The yellow arrows of THE PATH OF FAITH passing beside the Matrix Church also worth a visit even the most skeptical, just to check frescoes by Benedito Calixto and the italian Cercelli. The imposing building is testimony of the glorious past.
