Estiva has nothing to do with dock work.

The region of the city of Estiva was considered the best passage for travelers who circulated among the former provinces of São Paulo and Minas Gerais.

Even so, it was not easy, as the road was very boggy, a real swamp and caused a lot of damage to loads and delays for travelers. In the first half of the eighteenth century it was built a stowage to solve the problem (Estiva is a crude bridge made of sticks or sticks crossed over a stream), or if on a marshy or swampy land.Hence arose the first name of the region: Swamp of Estiva(Stowage).

Today is considered the strawberry capital.
