ABOUT THE CITY

It was after the coming of the railroad (1887) that the region has experienced significant development.

It was from Cascavel(“Rattlesnake”) Station, the old name of the village, which left the extension to Poços de Caldas.

A large snake was found and eventually change the village name until then known as “Pouso de Itupeva” (Itupeva Landing).

By going to a municipality, in 1944  the name had to be changed again, because of the pre-existence of another municipality called Cascavel. It conducted a plebiscite and the chosen name means just rattle or even rattlesnake in the indigenous language.

They changed the name, but not the meaning.
