It was the fanatical pursuit of gold that took the sertanista Gaspar Vaz da Cunha, the Oyaguara, to break the virgin forests of the Mantiqueira, coming from the Paraíba Valley, through, winding and steep bites, towards the gold mines of Itajiba (current City of Itajubá).
It was delighted with the exotic and lush landscape of Sapucai area and did not know he was breaking the path that later would lead to paradise on earth, adorned with luscious vegetation, fertile soil and exceptional climate.
The origin of its name is due to the Brigadeiro Manoel Rodrigues Jordão, which was acquired in 1823 by mortgage, the land of the farm that had belonged to Ignacio Caetano, and with it the large farm came to be called the Jordan fields (Campos do Jordão).
