Borda da Mata started as a stopping point for travelers to rest.
The early explorers took advantage of a location with strategic position: on one side there was much field that served as pasture for livestock and on the other, a lot of forest providing wood for various uses. They were hosted there as well in “Borda da Mata”(“Edge of the Forest”).
Even taking advantage of the location, the city benefited again with the passage of the railway which at first was only Sapucai extension, but then joined to the Mogiana railway, generating great economic development.
