ABOUT THE CITY

Descalvado or Escalvado means “hairless” “bald” or “a place with underbrush.” The name does not derive soil quality in the region, which is actually very good. It was, rather, the nickname of a hill at the south of the city that served as as reference to travelers coming from Rio Claro moving toward the Araraquara.

The road to Porto Ferreira is not hard, about 20 km which total 174m climb and descend 290m. Being the area very economically exploited mainly for the cultivation of sugarcane, it was good to choose the path avoiding the paved and busy roads, providing a nice way for the pilgrim.
